Artist Interview - Kagato007

Hello and welcome back to Sheepish Dreams, giving you a daily dose of NSFW art inspiration! Today, we're continuing our interview series, where we talk with an incredible NSFW artist who inspires us with their art and attitude.

Today, I have the pleasure of interviewing a fantastic artist and somebody I've been following for many years, and watched grow into a true inspiration: Kagato007!

Q. Firstly, thank you so much for agreeing to speak with us here on Sheepish Dreams! Tell our readers a little about yourself and what programs you use for illustration.

A: Hi! Hello! I am Kagato007 or Kagi. I'm a small fry from Poland, trying to live the NSFW artist dream.

I have two drawing setups: at home, I'm using an underpowered HP ProDesk mini PC with an XP-Pen Artist 12, and when I'm on the go, I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra (that's a mouthful) with an 8BitDo Zero Controller as a shortcut remote.

And as for software, I am using Clip Studio Paint, and I am not going back to Photoshop, ever.

Q. When did you start drawing, and what inspired you to take it up?

A: Many moons ago, in elementary school, one of the video game magazines started publishing a manga corner. And I fell in love instantly. I mean, who would not fall in love with the style, in those big eyes, etc.

At the same time, I was (and still am) an avid fantasy reader, so these two converged into countless fantasy drawings. I was drawing all the time, and a sketchbook was my faithful companion. Every break I had I would whip it out and draw elven girls, heroic knights and bearded dwarves.

Q. Why did you choose to draw NSFW — was it something you always wanted to do, or did it happen along the way?

A: I came to NSFW rather late. As I mentioned before, my first love was fantasy, and it still is something I hold dearly in my heart. But after some years of not drawing, when I decided to get back to creating art, I made a Deviantart account, and there I found some wonderful artists, like Ganassa and Aeolus. At that point, something clicked, and I just went with it. I do love the female form, I love sexy bodies, and clothes are a bother to draw. And let's be fair, erotica is just beautiful.

I still remember Aeolus' artwork that made me want to draw something naughtier. And the rest is, how they say, history.

Q. We recently featured this artwork of Shion (above, right) from you. Talk us through your process for designing and illustrating such fantastic pieces — do you plan it up front, or just dive straight in?

A: The answer to that will be unsatisfying. It's the dreadful "it depends." Sometimes, I have an idea in my head, and then I just carve the details. Sometimes I see some artwork that hits me, and I want to draw something with a similar mood. But more often than not, I start with an empty head and blank canvas. At this point, I just draw S-shaped lines to get the general composition. If you look at my artworks, you can see that most of the time, characters are in a sort of S-shape.

I always had a problem with starting new pieces; an empty canvas requires way more energy to start than if you're already warmed up by hours of drawing. My way of fighting this problem was to start the sketching process later during the day, so in the morning, I already have something to work on. That way during the hardest hours I just need to show up and work. No thinking required. And later, when I am warmed up and in the zone, I just keep the momentum and sketch what needs to be sketched. Creating for me, it's that puzzle game of figuring out my own problems and then working around them.

Q. A lot of your pieces, including this recent Komi, prominently feature round asses and pussies, becoming something of a trademark Kagato style. Was that always your preferred drawing pose, or something that evolved from follower feedback?

A: What can I say, I am a pirate at heart, and I just go for the booty.

But seriously speaking, I always enjoyed drawing shapely bums, but for a lot of time I was focused a bit too much on "what people would like" over what I like. That changed with time, and now I find the booty-focused artworks to be my comfort art I draw when I just want to relax and create something without overthinking.

Q: You run both a subscription Patreon and commissions — how do you balance drawing your "own" art, and working on commissions?

A: Oh, that's easy. I don't. Hahaha. Balance is one of those elusive things I chase, but it is very hard to catch. Fleeting bastard.

Joking aside, outside of overworking myself, I have a set workflow that helps me be somewhat efficient.

As I mix the "own" art with Patreon, it's the commissions that are the most time-consuming. So having clear communication and efficient workflow is what saves my hide.

Weirdly enough, sometimes adding extra things to your schedule helps with being more productive. For me, it's traveling, gym, running, escape rooms, musicals, and books. Because of these, I can go offline and let my brain rest for an hour or two, and then work harder.

Q: What advice would you give yourself (or a new NSFW artist) just getting into NSFW art? Are there things you'd do differently?

A: 1. Don't link your self-worth with your social media reach. It is a road to misery.

2. Social media is a fickle bastard, and riding it is a skill on its own. Creating art and getting a following are two different skill sets you need to learn. You can create the best-looking artwork, and if you're posting once every fortnight, nobody will notice. It's brutal, but that's just the fact.

3. Befriend other artists. Life is easier if you have people with the same goal around. Cherish them, support them, and be kind.

4. Experiment, try stuff out, learn, and enjoy the process. And don't be afraid of critiques.

5. Exercise.

6. Be proud of yourself, you're doing fine.

Q: Notably, you run both SFW and NSFW versions of your accounts, but you often post nudes for free (as opposed to pay-walling them). What's the rationale behind the two accounts, and do you find it worth the effort to maintain twice the number of accounts?

A: Fun fact. It's three accounts. SFW, NSFW, and Dumb Stuff.

It all circles back to what I said about social media. There are differences between NSFW and SFW accounts.

NSFW generally has a more tightly knit community, with people who are more mature and more supportive, which I always love to see.

SFW, on the other hand, used to be easier to grow because your art could leave your circle and get more viral. Funnily enough, my most viral tweet is from my Dumb Stuff account with almost 50k likes.

I do post NSFW on my NSFW account, but generally a month or two after it's been a reward for Patreon supporters. And on Patreon, I provide more alts (168 is the most alts I ever did for an artwork), so SFW is a way of promoting that. After all, my cats need to eat.

With how much the Twitter algorithm changed after Mr M took over, I am not sure if it is worth the effort to maintain the accounts. Reach on SFW has slowed to a crawl and is half dead. But I am too stubborn to stop. Instead of thinking if it is worth it or not, it's my responsibility to make it work.

Q. And lastly, as we're heading into 2026, what are your goals for next year as an artist?

A:  I generally don’t set any New Year's Resolutions. And I won’t this year. After all, if something is worth doing, why not start doing it now? But there are a few things I want to achieve in the near future. One of those things is finally attending a con as an artist. I also want to finally draw a manga chapter or a few, and open an art store. Please, keep your fingers crossed.

We want to thank Kagi for their generous time and in-depth answers to all our burning questions! You can subscribe to Kagato007's Patreon, follow them on Twitter (NSFW & SFW) and BlueSky (NSFW & SFW), and check out their Instagram and alt account.

Thanks for checking in on these Sheepish Dreams! Your support keeps this project going and funds my artwork, too, which you can always commission using the links in the menu.

May all your dreams come true~
